5 Benefits of Blogging for Farmers to Get More Customers

Blogging (strategically) can be so beneficial for getting more customers to your farm!

I’ve already covered the benefits of having a website and the benefits of SEO for farmers, so I would start there if you haven’t done any SEO work on your site yet. I recommend getting everything optimized for Googles and potential customers before getting into blogging.

But once you’re ready to start blogging strategically, there are so many ways it can help your business grow! So let’s dig into the benefits of blogging for farmers and agricultural businesses 🙂

5 Benefits of Blogging for Farmers to Get More Customers

Who should have a blog?

Yes, not every farmer needs to have a blog! If you’re a large commercial farm only selling to stores, you have more customers than you can handle right now, or you’re only selling at places like farmer’s markets, you likely don’t need a blog.

But if you’re a smaller farm selling directly to your customers (either in person or online), you offer services or events at your farm, you want to get more customers, or you have some competition in your area, blogs can help you rank on Google and reach more customers.

So if you are someone who can benefit from blog posts, read on!

You can target more keywords

Want to rank higher on Google for more keywords? Blog posts can help!

The more different topics you write about, the more keywords that you have the opportunity to rank for.

So instead of just being able to rank for keywords like “farm near me,” you could also rank for keywords like “vegetables in season in May,” “can you go blueberry picking in Philadelphia?”, and “benefits of grass fed beef.”

And those are all opportunities for you to share information and tell potential customers about your farm and the products you offer! Make sure all of your blog posts are relevant to the products that you offer so people don’t think they can get something like watermelons from your farm if you don’t actually grow them.

You can go more in-depth about your services and products

If you get questions about your CSA or your wedding flower services, blog posts are a great place to go into more detail about how your services work. You can answer a lot of questions about how each different service works in individual blog posts.

Plus, you’ll have the opportunity rank on Google for keywords related to “CSA near me” when you have a blog post all about your CSA!

You can connect more with potential customers

A great benefit of blogging is that you get to showcase more of your personality and talk about personal experiences to build more connections with customers. People love finding ways to relate to other people, and if they find that you have something in common, it’s an easy way to create more of a bond. Or they might just love your funny personality or admire your mission and want to support you more!

Social media is also a great way to connect with your audience (and as much as I love SEO, it is also important to be active on social media!), but blog posts can be longer form content to keep your audience engaged longer. And you don’t have to compete with the 400 other accounts they follow when they’re scrolling through Instagram.

You’ll have more content to share on social media

Speaking of social media, they more blog posts that you have on your site, the more links you can share on social media and Google Business Profile!

Don’t have any ideas for what to post on Facebook Monday morning? Just grab a blog post link and write a short blurb and hit publish. That way you’re staying active with your Facebook audience AND helping drive traffic back to your website.

And a benefit of blogging for your social media strategy is that you’ve already written the content, so you can repurpose it for social media posts. You can even ask ChatGPT to take your blog posts and shorten them into emails or social media posts to save yourself some time.

You can get affiliate income

Want to make some passive income? You can get some extra cash with affiliate links!

Once you have an affiliate account set up with a website like Amazon, all you have to do is use your affiliate links for products in your blog posts, and whenever someone visits that link and purchases from that site (even if they don’t buy the specific product you mentioned), you’ll get a percentage of that sale.

Writing a blog post about how to grow tomatoes? You can link to products you mention like tomato seeds, trowels, soil, trellises, fertilizer, etc. I personally love when a farmer or gardener shares what tools they’re using because it saves me from having to do the research myself.
